74. அகல நின்றால் பகைஞரும் உறவு.
      If stayed at a distance, even enemies are as friends.

75. அருகாக பழுத்தாலும் விளாமரத்தில் வௌவால் வராது.
      However near the tree of ripe stone-apple may be, the bat will not alight on it.

76. அன்னம் முட்டானால் எல்லாம் முட்டு.
      Where food is scarce, all is scarce.

77. அற்பசிக்கும் கார்த்திகைக்கும் மழை இல்லாவிட்டால், அண்ணனுக்கும் சரி, தம்பிக்கும் சரி.
      If no rain falls in October and November, the elder and younger brothers are on equality.

78. அப்பன் அருமை அப்பன் மாண்டால் தெரியும். உப்பிலருமை உப்பு சமைந்தால் தெரியும்.
      The excellency of father is discovered after his death; the value of salt is known after it is expended.

79. அரவுக்கு இல்லை சிறுமையும் பெருமையும்.
      The mere size of snake is not a matter of consideration.

80. அவில் என்ன செய்யும்? அஞ்சு குணம் செய்யும்.
      பொருள் என்ன செய்யும்? ஊரை வசம் செய்யும்.
      What can rice do? It will awaken the five senses.
      What can wealth do? It can subordinate the surrounding country.

81. அடி சட்டிக்குள்ளே கரணம் போடலாமா?
      Can you do a somersault in the bottom of a pot?

82. அபசாரி ஆடுகிறது குலத்திற்கு ஈனம்.
      Female's licentiousness is a disgrace to her family.

83. அகதிக்கு ஆகாயம் துணை.
      To the destitute the air is of help.   (OR)
      The air is the refuge of the destitute.

84. அற்ப ஆசை கோடி தவத்தைக் கெடுக்கும்.
      The least desire vitiates a myriad of penance.

85. அரிசிப் பொதியுடனே திருவாரூர்.
      To go to Tiruvaroor with a sack of rice.

86. அடியும் பட்டு புளித்த மாங்காயும் திங்க வேண்டுமா?
       Is it necessary to be punished and still eat sour mangoes?

87. அரிவாள் சூட்டைப் போலக் காச்சல் மாற்றவோ?
      Can fever be cured just as a hot sickle is cooled?

88. அங்கே தப்பி, இங்கே தப்பி அகப்பட்டுக் கொண்டான்      தும்மட்டிப்பட்டான்.
       Tumattipattan escaped here & there, but was caught in the end.

89. அடி மேல் அடி அடித்தால் அம்மியும் நகரும்.
       Even the grind stones will be affected under repeated strokes.

90. அழுக்கை அழுக்கு கொல்லும்; இழுக்கை இழுக்கு வெல்லும்.
      Impurity destroys impurity; Ignominy overcomes ignominy.

91. அடி அற்ற மரம் போல.
      Like a tree without the roots.

92. அந்தூது நெல்லானேன்.
      I am become as paddy eaten by insects.

93. அமுது உண்கிற நாவினாலே விடம் உண்பாரோ?
      Will he eat poison with the tongue with which he ate ambrosia?

94. அரசு இல்லா படை வெட்டு.
      The battle of an army having no Chief.

95. அடை மழைக்குள் ஓர் ஆட்டுக்குட்டி செத்தது போல.
       As the lamb that died during continuous rain.

96. அப்பு சாவ மகன் கப்பு பிடிக்கிறது.
      The son seizing the pillar as his father dies.

97. அங்கத்தைக் கொண்டு போய் ஆற்றில் சேர்க்க ஒண்ணாது.
      It is not fit that we should put our body into the river.

98. அடங்கா பாம்பிற்கு ராசா மூங்கில் அடி.
      The bamboo is king to the untamed serpent.

99. அறமுறுக்குக் கொடும்புரிக் கொண்டு அற்றுவிடும்.
      By severe twisting the rope breaks.

100. அடிக்க அடிக்க பந்து விசை கொள்ளும்.
       The ball rebounds in proportion as it is beaten.
