Trees


Trees are of great variety.
Sizes and Strength - Birch, Neem,
Tamarind, Fir, Mango are
Some of the names we give them.

Trees grow taller, liver longer.
Some live longer than centuries.
They don't move, but are found everywhere,
Can't talk, but birds are their voices.

Shade during the day,
Rains during monsoon,
Trees also provide us
Fruits during its season.

Trees are shelter for birds,
Timbers are used for building houses.
Fences are built around houses,
To protect from animals.

Trees exhale oxygen,
And inhale Carbon-dioxide.
Thus trees provide clean air
And help the world sustain life.

I, a clock, was hung on the wall
E'en before I started to work.
Working silently from the hall,
I started my lifelong work.

I strike six every morning
To tell the mother to wake up.
I strike seven for the father
To make him get ready for office.

The girl avoids looking at me
Till she's getting late for school.
The boy always wishes,
I break down and stop working every soon.

Mother looks ast me from kitchen,
Father looks at me for cricket timings.
The boy looks for playtime,
While the girl wants to reach her dance classes.

Tense family faces look at me
Every morning, during the week days.
I am ignored mostly on Sundays,
Though I work for them every day.

Though a bud last night,
Before the morning light,
From the bud I rose
To be a blossomed rose.

My petals are red,
The leaves are green.
Though thorns are my bed,
I live to spread fragrance.

A short life is mine,
But as long as I live,
I spread sweet smell
A long as I can.
