101. அந்தரத்தில் கோல் எறிந்து வந்தவன் போலே.

        Will one enter through the small door-way on the back of the elephant?

105. ஆறு நீந்தின எனக்கு குளம் நீந்துவது அரிதோ?
         Is it difficult for me to swim a tank, when I had swimmed a river?

106. ஆறின கஞ்சி பழங்கஞ்சி.
         Cold gruel is old gruel.

107. ஆனைக்கு இல்லை கானலும் மழையும்.
        The elephant regards neither sunshine nor rain.

108. ஆல் பழுத்தால் அங்கே; அரசு பழுத்தால் இங்கே.
        When the banyan bears, there; when the fig bears, here.

109. ஆசைப்பட்ட காரியம் ஊசிப்போயிற்று .
        The thing once desired is abhorred.

110. ஆடியா வெட்டையிலும் நெல் விலையாக வில்லை.
        Even in the heat of July, paddy has no sale.

111. ஆடிய காலே பாடிய மிடறே .
        The foot accustomed to dancing, and the throat accustomed to singing.

112. ஆறிய புண்ணினும் அசறு நிற்கும்.
        There is a scab on the wound that is healed.

113. ஆசையும் அண்டாதால் அழுகையும் அண்டாது.
        Where there is no desire there is no grief.

114. ஆயிரக்கல நெல்லுக் கோரத்துப் பூச்சியாய் தோன்றினையே.
        You are born as a insect to destroy a thousand bushels of grain.

115. ஆயிரம் வயது சென்று செத்தாலும் அந்நீதச் சாவு.
        Though it does not occur before a thousand years, death is regarded as an untimely event.

116. ஆகக் குழைப்பேன் அரிசியா இறக்குவேன்.
        I will either overcook the rice or take it off unboiled.

117. ஆங்காலம் அபச்சரியா ஆடிச் சாங்காலம் சங்கரா சங்கரா என்கிறது.
        To cry Shankara Shankara after playing the harlot though the life.

118. ஆணிக்கு இணங்கிய பொன்னும், மாமிக்கு இணங்கிய பெண்ணும் அருமை.
        Gold agreeing withe the assigned test and a woman agreeable to the mother in law are scarce.

119. ஆசையுள்ள அளவும் அலைச்சலும் உண்டு.
        One of excessive desires is ever perturbed.

120. ஆடிற்று கூத்து அமர்ந்த ஒரு நாழிகையில்.
        Dancing was begun and ended in an hour.

121. ஆயிரம் பனையுள்ள அப்பனுக்கு பிறந்து, பல்லுக்  குத்த வீர்க்கு இல்லை.
        He whose father possesses 1000 palmyra trees has not a fiber to pick his teeth.

122. ஆலை இல்லா ஊருக்கிருப்பைப் பூ சர்க்கரை.
        The flower of the olive tree is esteemed sugar where there is no sugar mill.

123.ஆள் மெத்தக் கூடினால் மீன் மெத்தப் பிடிக்கலாம்.
       The quantity of fish caught will be proportionate to the number of fishermen.

124. ஆளை ஆள் அறிய வேணும்; மீனைப் புளியங்காய் அறிய வேண்டும்.
        To know his fellow one must partake his qualities; to know the quality of fish it must be           seasoned with tamarind juice.   

125. ஆளொரு குட்டுக் குட்ட அடியேன் தலை மிடாப்போலே.
        By being buffetted by every one, my head has become as large as a caldron.

126. ஆக்கப் பொறுக்க நேரம் உண்டாம், ஆறப் பொறுக்க நேரம் இல்லையா?
        If there be time to wait while it is cooked, is there no time to wait while it cools?

127. ஆத்தை படுகிற பாட்டுக்குள்ளே, குத்தியன் மொணணிக்கு அழுகிறான்.
        Whilst the mother endures tormenting affliction, the adult son cries for the breast.

128. ஆனையைக் குத்தி சுளகாலே மூடுகிறது.
        To cover the elephant one has killed with the hand-winnowing fan.

129. ஆடுவதும் ஆடி, பாகற்காயும் பறித்தாயிற்று.
        The dancing is over and the bitter gourd is plucked.

130. ஆளிளந்தலை கண்டால் தோணி மிதக்கப் பாயும்.
        When the boat finds her pilot unskillful she pitches.

131. ஆடு கால்பணம்; வால் முக்கால் பணம்.

132. ஆனை கொடுத்து தோட்டிக்குப் பிணக்கா?
        When the elephant is given, shall a dispute ensue about the goad?

133. ஆய்ந்து ஓய்ந்து பாராதான் காரியம் தான் சாவக் கடவது.
        Let the thing entered up without consideration and pursued without due caution come to an end.

134. ஆராருக்கு நான் ஆகுவேன் ஆகா உடம்பையும் புண்ணையும் கொண்டு.
        Being deformed and ulcerated for whom shall I be fit?

135. ஆடு கொழுத்தால் இடையனுக்கு இலாபம்.
        If the sheep grow fat, it is advantageous to the shepherd.

136. ஆறு வடியச்சே கொல்லும், பஞ்சம் தெளியச்சே கொல்லும்.
        The river kills when its flood subsides; famine destroys when it ceases.

137. ஆனை தழுவிய கையாலே ஆடு தழுவுகிறதோ?
        Does the hand that caressed the elephant, caresses the sheep?

138. ஆண் பிள்ளைகள் எல்லாரும் அடுப்பு ஊதித் தின்ற பஞ்சம், பெண்கள் எல்லாரும் பிறகோடி காத்த பஞ்சம்.
         A famine in which the men cook their own food & ate, while the women are waiting outside.

139. ஆர் குத்தியும் அரிசி ஆனாலே சரி.
        No matter who pounds it, if it be rice.

140. ஆண்டி மகன் ஆண்டி ஆனால் நேரம் அறிந்து சங்கு ஊதுவான்.
        If he really be the son of the mendicant, he would blow the conch at the right time.

141. ஆளான ஆட்களுக்கு அவிழ்ப் படாக் காலத்திலே, காக்கா பிசாசு கஞ்சிக்கு அழுகிறது.
        The raven demon cries for rice gravy when the opulent cannot obtain even rice.

142. ஆண்டிக் குண்டியைத் தட்டினால் பறப்பது சாம்பல்.
        If the bottom of a mendicant be stuck, nothing but dust flies.

143. ஆனை விழுந்தால் கொம்பு; புலி விழுந்தால் அண்டை.
        When a elephant dies, his tusk is left; when a tiger dies his tail is left.

144. ஆகும் காலம் ஆகும்; போகும் காலம் போகும்.
         It will happen in its Time; it will go in its Time.

145. ஆடு கொண்டவர் ஆடித் திரிவர்; கோழி கொண்டவர் கூவித் திரிவர்.
         Those who own a goat, wanders about; those with chicken cackle around.

146. ஆட்டுக்கு தீர்ந்தது குட்டிக்கு.
         The lamb shares the fate of the ram.

147.  ஆனை மேயும் காட்டில், ஆட்டுக்குட்டி மேய இடமில்லையா?
         In the pasturage of the elephant, is there no room for a goat?

148. ஆமையுடனே முயல் முட்டையிடப் போய்க் கண் பிதுங்கிச் செத்தது.
       The hare in its attempt to lay eggs as the tortoise, strained its eyes out and died.

149. ஆனையும் ஆனையும் முதுகு அரிஞ்ச நடுவே இருந்த கொசுக்கு வந்தது சேதம்.
        The destruction that happened to the mosquito when two elephants rubbed their sides together.

150. ஆனை படுத்தாலும் குதிரையின் உயரம் வராதா?
        Even while lying down, is not the elephant as tall as the horse?
